Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk opened the scoring in the 51st minute with a header, assisted by Ryan Gravenberch, giving the Dutch a 1-0 lead. Japan quickly responded, with Keito Nakamura leveling the score in the 57th minute after a deflection. Crysencio Summerville then restored the Netherlands' lead in the 64th minute, curling a shot into the bottom corner. Ryan Gravenberch also contributed to both Dutch goals with his assists.

The pivotal moment arrived in the 89th minute when Japan found their second equalizer. From a corner kick, Koki Ogawa headed the ball towards goal, and Daichi Kamada provided a decisive deflection, sending the ball past Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen to make it 2-2. This late goal denied the Netherlands a victory and secured a valuable point for the Samurai Blue.

Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu commented on the result, stating, "We are not completely satisfied with the draw, but the Netherlands are a top-class team and we tried to compete at the same level. We were tenacious but patient and kept calm."

Both teams now hold one point in Group F. The Netherlands will face Sweden in their next fixture, while Japan prepares to play Tunisia.
