U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx today announced on the House floor that Rep. David Scott passed. Rep. David Scott, D-GA-13, passed today. He was 80 years old. Rep. Scott was first elected to represent Georgia's 13th congressional district in 2003 when the constituency was first established.
Rep. Scott was expected to retain his seat in the upcoming November 2026 Elections.
His passing brings the total number of members of the 119th congress to 430 with 217 Republicans and 212 Democrats and 5 vacancies. His passing follows on from recent high profile resignations from former Reps, Tony Gonzalez, R-Tx, former Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-CA, and former Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, D-FL.
All 5 vacancies are expected to remain with their parties for the November 2026 elections with Democrats expecting a net +3 gain following Virginia voters' adoption of a new 10-1 Democrat favored map.
