Kimberly Guilfoyle Resigns as Ambassador to Greece
GRANDS RAPID, MI.- Kimberly Guilfoyle resigned as ambassador to Greece on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The former ambassador resigned following a wave of misconduct allegations asserting that she attempted to a solicit a bribe from a Trump donor, Eric Deters. Messages revealed by the Wall Street Journal showed her requesting $100,000 from Deters to pay off her American Express credit card. The messages showed her making the request only six days prior to her confirmation as the Trump administration's ambassador to Greece.
Deters later confirmed that he denied her request because she failed to satisfy previous obligations in the past to handle his outstanding tax liabilities for sums of payment totaling up to $300,000. The messages showed her telling Deters to wire the $100,000 per her request instead of sending it by other means so that the wire would be untraceable.
Newly appointed press secretary, Katie Zacharia, told journalists during her first press briefing on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, that the Trump administration asked her to resign following the release of the allegations.
